I met Maureen in Russian class at Carleton College. We kept in touch and admired each others’ art over the years since college.
When I saw Maureen’s fascination with hands across all media in her art practice, it sparked something— Maybe because hands feature so prominently in jewelry-making?
Our hands are constantly at work, no matter what you do. The HANDwork collection is a celebration and a study of the work we do with our hands.
Maureen, based in Minneapolis, MN, carved many of the hand pieces in this collection in wax and sent the waxes to me in Albuquerque where I had them cast with a local caster. The pieces were then fabricated, flourished, and finished in my studio in Nob Hill. Some of the pieces were entirely fabricated (no cast pieces used) by hand based on Maureen’s hand doodles.
