The Fancy Yet Easy Celtic Knot Bun (with a Hair Stick, of Course!)

The Celtic Knot is an illusion: it appears to have no beginning or end! This hairstyle is deceptively easy and fast. You'll have a fancy, chic knotted bun that looks like you tried harder than you actually did (the best kind of hairdo if you ask me!).

This is a fancy figure-8 bun that works really great with long hair (it works with my length, but an extra inch or more would be even better). You can use a hair stick or a two-pronged hairpin for this style.

This description is kind of confusing, but hopefully the video will clarify. I tried to talk through it in the video, and due to my lack of editing skills, you’ll hear John (my bf) at the end too, haha!

  1. Make a ponytail and twist the hair into a long coil.

  2. Make an ‘L’ with your thumb and first finger, then hold the ponytail making an ‘OK’ sign, leaving your other three fingers out.

  3. Holding the coil of hair in your other hand, wrap it up and around your pointer finger, snaking it through your pointer finger and middle finger.

  4. Bring the coil of hair down and around your hand. You have to let go of the coil briefly to grab the hair again and pull it under the arm holding the ponytail.

  5. Then bring the coiled hair under your thumb and back up to your pointer finger. If you have really long hair you can bring it all the way around the base of the bun another time (I need to find a long-haired friend to demonstrate this!)

  6. Use your pointer finger to hook the tail end of the coil and pull it through the loop you made. Don’t pull all the way through so that the tail stays hidden inside the bun.

  7. Take your hair stick (or pin!) and insert it into the top edge of the bun, slide it down into the bun along your scalp. Pop it out the other side of the bun to secure.

Give it a try and let me know how it goes in the comments below!
