Cheater's French Twist: Fancy Up-do Made Easy
This “cheat” French twist is a quick and dirty version of the traditional French twist up-do, which requires time pinning and tucking to get everything neat and tight. It’s pretty fast and fluid-- don’t worry about perfection!
I am using the abalone hairslide from the Botanica collection. I have 3 left as of this post! You can use any type of hairslide hairpin for this style, however (linked below). This look is especially great for fine hair because a tight twist creates a lot of hold.
Gather your hair like you are putting it up in a ponytail.
I find it easier to handle if you twist the whole ponytail in the beginning, holding the end with one hand, and grabbing the center with your other.
Loop your thumb around the center of the ponytail, still holding the tail end with your other hand. Think of folding your ponytail in half.
Use your thumb to twist the folded ponytail, keeping hold of the tail end with your other hand. You can pull your thumb out of the loop and continue twisting like I did.
Your hair should be twisted up, with the loop at the top, and the tail end at the bottom. You can tuck the little tail later if you want!
Use a hairslide to secure by sliding it into the looped bit of hair at the top of your head, wiggle it in toward your scalp to hold.
I really like the way this looks! Give it a try and let me know how it goes.
