Brass Jewelry Care: Clean tarnish with this natural method using household products
Brass, like sterling silver, will tarnish over time due to natural oxidation. Fortunately, when you notice your pieces are getting a bit dull, it’s super easy to brighten them up!
This tutorial will show you how to easily clean tarnish from your brass jewelry pieces using all-natural stuff you probably already have around the house. No harsh chemical cleaners necessary.
You will need:
baking soda
lemon or lemon juice (lime juice works too)
an old toothbrush or a cotton pad
a paper towel or dishcloth
Procedure:
Take a small amount of baking soda and mix with a squeeze of lemon juice. You can use store bought lemon juice, or a lime— it doesn’t matter! Use whatever' you’ve got.
Mix into a paste— you don’t have to be very precise with measurements and ratios, you just want a paste-like texture.
Use an old toothbrush or a cotton pad to scrub the paste into the brass. If your piece has stones or decorative patina, avoid these areas with the paste.
Rinse in water and dry thoroughly with a dishcloth or paper towel.
Helpful hint: To keep your brass pieces bright and shiny, I recommend storing your jewelry in a ziplock bag, or a dry place (not in your bathroom). Remove your jewelry when showering or swimming.
