How to Use a Hairslide: The Classic Bun
I am a firm believer that anyone, no matter their hair length or texture, can use a hairpin— you just have to know how to do it! This is a super easy way to make a classic bun with a hairslide.
Any old pin will do, but here I am featuring the Unikko Hairslide, from the Unikko Collection. These flowers are glass enamel on copper (all done by hand, of course!), so you can be reminded of warmth and spring year-round.
Here’s a walk through:
Twist your hair into a bun.
Take the hairslide in one hand, holding your bun in place with the other. Gently hold the tines of the hairpin apart with your fingers as you stick them into the bun.
Stick the tines into the top edge of the bun (not the center!). The pin should be pointing directly toward your scalp.
Now slide the tines down into the bun. As you do this, you are sliding the pin along your scalp, at the roots of you hair (a nice scalp massage!). You might need to wiggle the pin a little to get it through the bun.
When you pop out the other side of the bun, leverage the pin so that it pokes out of the ‘meat’ of the bun (rather than the base of the bun near your scalp). This secures the bun in place!
Violà! That’s it. Cute, no? It might take some practice, but once you get it, it’s a fast and easy updo.
