Hollywood Bombshell Style for a Windy Day

It’s very windy here in New Mexico at this time of year. The weather here year-round is very harsh! Looking to protect your freshly colored or styled hair-do from the harsh sun, wind, or rain? Try this super cute old Hollywood glam-inspired look to protect your coif on a windy day.

Or perhaps you live somewhere with colder spring weather (looking at you, Minnesotans dealing with winter in mid-April). You are ready to throw your beanie across the room because you are DONE with the cold, but you do still need a little extra coverage for warmth. This look will work for you, too, and help you channel those warmer weather vibes.

Bad hair day? I got you covered (pardon the pun). Turn your unfortunate situation into a glamorous opportunity.

Better yet, you are the lucky one riding in a convertible in the French Riviera? Maybe you just aspire to do so one day. Well, this is definitely the ~lewk~ for you.

To get the effortless “Bombshell” look you will need:

  • A large square silk scarf

  • Red lipstick (this is non-negotiable, folks!)

  • Crux barrettes or bobby pins to secure your scarf in place (the wind!!)

  • Sunglasses (cat-eye is classic, but whatever you got will do!)

Jackie O was big into protecting her barrel-roll curled coif.

Audrey Hepburn rocked this look a lot. Here she is with super cute baby bangs and her signature full brows.

Here’s how to get the look:

  1. Apply red lipstick.

  2. Flip hair to one side. You will get more volume if you flip hair to the side where you don’t usually wear your part. I typically wear a side part, so parting it on either side creates good volume at the part. Why is this important? Because you’ll want a little pompadour popping out of the scarf (think vintage pin curl bangs).

  3. Fold your large square scarf into a triangle.

  4. Holding the ends, place the scarf over your head so that the long edge frames your face.

  5. Cross the ends under your chin and bring them around to the back of your head. Tie ends in a knot at the nape of your neck. If you have long hair, this knot creates a little pouch for your hair to nestle into.

  6. Tuck your hair behind your ears, but pull out the bit at the top for the pompadour effect. The pompadour is essential for directing this look towards “Bombshell” and away from “Babushka”.

  7. Fold the scarf delicately to frame it around your face. Hold the scarf in place above your ear and pin it in place with a Crux Barrette. This will secure your pompadour and prevent the scarf from slipping off your head.

  8. Do the same on the other side. Adjust hair and scarf as necessary.

  9. Pop on some sunnies and strike a pose!

AWOOGA! Bring on the unruly spring weather! Grace Kelly ain’t got nothing on you (besides being a literal princess)! An easy, stylish solution to virtually any hair situation. You’re welcome.
