Easy Knotted Bun Updo with a Hairslide

I know I say all my tutorials are easy, but really, that’s just because they are. Using hairpins is not magic, folks! And no, it truly does not matter what your hair texture is. It’s all about the technique (and where there’s a will, there’s a way).

This one is truly easy because you are just tying knots with your hair, then sticking a pin in it, lol.

I was planning on tying two knots, but then because my hair is so ridiculously long right now, and quite fine, I added a third. You can stick with two and tuck the ends up or wrap the ends around the knots to create more of a circular bun.

Here’s the walk-through:

  1. Separate your hair into two sections.

  2. Tie a knot, just like you would to start your shoe lace tie. Repeat, tying as many knots as you need to get to the ends. (I did three knots.)

  3. Tuck your ends under the knots, or wrap them around the knots if you have quite a bit of length.

  4. Hold the knots secure with one hand, and with the other, slide the hairpin in in the usual way: tines through the bun sliding along the scalp and popping out the other side.

I demonstrated going in with the pin at the top and coming out the bottom, AND going in with the pin at one side and coming out the other. Either way works!

Cute and easy, just the way we like it. I am using the chrysocolla pin here, but you can you whatever hairslide or comb of your choice!

The earrings I am wearing are the Small Organic Hoops in brass.
