Quick and Easy Updo with Wave Barrettes for Long Hair

My hair has gotten ridiculously long during quarantine. I used to use one wave barrette to easily put my hair up, but now that I have tons of extra length, I use two for extra security. Here is a fun and easy way to create an interesting updo hairstyle with some fun squiggle details.

  1. Gather your hair at the nape of your neck. Twist your hair to create a long coil.

  2. Next, twist the hair like a twisted donut by grabbing the coil in the middle with one hand, and holding on to the end with the other. Fold the coil so the end meets the base, then, where you are holding the middle of the coil, turn the top loop holding the end in place at the base. See? A twisted donut! As you turn, the ends will tuck themselves under the twist.

  3. The first wave barrette will secure the top of the twist to your head. Make sure you slide the barrette prong underneath the twist and along your scalp to secure the twist to your head.

  4. Use the second wave barrette to secure the twist toward the base (where your ends are tucked).

That’s it! I went in with one barrette on the right side, and the second on the left, but that’s not necessary-- I tried with both on the right and it held just fine. Super fast and super easy to create a quick, casual updo look.

And guess what else! This barrette is available at sliding scale pricing, part of my initiative to make my handmade pieces more accessible to all, because everyone deserves beautiful, ethically made pieces of wearable art 😘.
